The Jordan culture is influenced by the western, both Arabic and Islamic elements. For those who don't know where Jordan is, I didn't know until recently, it lies on the center of the Middle East, shared its northern border with Syria, eastern border with Iraq, it's southern and eastern borders with Saudi Arabia. The Jordan river is on its western border as well as the Dead Sea and Israel. Arabic is the official language but English is taught and widely spoken. The only difference is the accent they use in different parts of the Middle East. The middleish of the word gets changed depending on the gender of the person you talk to. I tried it and it’s like having to learn two different languages. Their flag has black, white and green horizontal stripes with a red triangle on the hoist side bearing a white seven-pointed star. The Palestinian flag is identical but does not have the white star. Their traditional dance Is dabke, boys and girls hold hands and dance involving foot stomping to a high energy music. It originated in the mountainous regions above the Mediterranean coastline and the Tigriss River. When the Dabke dance was first created it was mainly danced by people of the villages and towns of Lebanon, Syria, Palestine, Jordan, Iraq, and some quasi-bedouin tribes that were living in nearby territories. I tried this dance at home by myself and I completely failed but I loved just watching videos of this dance and trying something new. Their national dish is Masaf , a traditional dish made of lamb cooked in a sauce of fermented dried yogurt called Jameed and served with rice or bulgur. I'm not much of a cook but I decided to give it a try and I gave up half way through. As i was trying to boil the yogurt to get it to be dried... it tasted differently like when it's been out of the fridge too long and I stopped, whoops. The ladies of Jordan use traditional dresses.Black dresses with sewing on them, the red sewing is the most famous. Lastly, their music is super high energetic. I was listening to it and it just definitely got in a much better mood. I am fascinated by their music, dances and traditional dresses. Huge thanks to Leen for all the help with her culture experience. |
